Dr. Øyvind Sandbakk is an accomplished professor and former cross-country runner, currently leading groundbreaking research at NTNU’s Department of Neuromedicine and Movement Science. As the head of the Center for Top Sports Research, Sandbakk delves into the intricate realms of physiology and biomechanics, exploring the nuances of strength and endurance training. With a rich background at Olympiatoppen, including a stint as the head of research and development, Sandbakk has authored numerous books and over 200 studies. He brings his expertise to the forefront, examining the physiological and biomechanical mechanisms that drive top-level athletic performance. As the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Sport Physiology and Performance, Sandbakk continues to shape the discourse in sports research. His multifaceted contributions extend to leadership roles in various sports organizations, reflecting his commitment to advancing the field.

Sandbakk, a seasoned cross-country athlete, is happily married to Silvana Bucher Sandbakk, an associate professor and former member of Switzerland’s national running team.
