Ep 115: World Health Day Special — Importance of Cardiovascular Fitness and Role Of Exercise with Jessica Orchard, Ph.D.

In the World Health Day special episode of Run with Fitpage, we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Jessica Orchard, a Senior Research Fellow and NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, the University of Sydney. Vikas and D. Jessica talk all about cardiovascular fitness, and the role of exercise for heart health along with many other important points for runners.

Jessica is the Head of the Sports Cardiology Group and a member of the Scientific Associate Faculty at the Centenary Institute. She is also an Associate Editor at the British Journal of Sports Medicine and a Cardiac Research Fellow at Cricket Australia. Her Ph.D. (University of Sydney) was awarded without emendation in November 2020, for which she received the Peter Bancroft Prize for Research. She also has a Master of Public Health and Bachelor of Economics / Bachelor of Laws (Hons I) all from the University of Sydney. Jessica became a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) in 2019.

Jessica’s research focuses on sports cardiology, cardiac screening and best practice implementation, injury surveillance, and sports injury prevention. She is also interested in the legal and ethical aspects of screening, and how the law can be used to promote health policy objectives. Jessica has published 65+ peer-reviewed papers, with an H index of 24 and 16,800+ citations, including several first-author papers cited in international guidelines. She has authored 8 commissioned reports for elite sports in Australia, which implemented numerous recommendations.
