Runar Brandt Gundersen is a Norwegian runner who is well known for running the New York City Marathon 41 times, being only out of a few runners to have achieved this feat. Runar has been running the New York City Marathon 41 times, each year since his debut in 1978. That time it was 9,875 starters. Only 4 runners have run it more times in the history of the race. Runar’s best Marathon time is 2:32:31. His best time in New York is 2:46:18. He has had Achilles surgery 9 times from 1984 to 2014. Runar also had back surgery in 2015 and knee surgery in 2016 and 2017. He also got his knee replaced 3 months back, and we wish him a good run at this years NYC Marathon!
